1. General information
The subject "Sociology of the Present World" is part of the module "Analysis and interpretation of areas of reality", which introduces the knowledge for the future professional to be able to contextualize and interpret reality.
These approaches and goals are aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations Agenda 2030: SDG 1: End poverty; SDG 5: Gender equality; SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth ; SDG 10: Reducing inequalities; SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
No previous knowledge of Sociology is required to take the subject.
2. Learning results
The learning results derive directly from the acquisition of the following competencies:
- Comprehend a knowledge base on the keys to the sociological interpretation of today's world and the methods of sociological analysis, with indicators: understand and relate the concepts, principles and methods of sociological analysis to journalistic information on relevant facts about social actors and institutions.
- Effectively apply knowledge of the rights to freedom of expression and freedom of information and their limits, as well as the basic legal standards of the journalistic profession, with indicators: effectively apply thetools and procedures of sociology to the analysis of practical cases.
- Interpret and apply procedural knowledge to elucidate the keys to information documents and texts, with indicators: to elaborate hypotheses on journalistic information to analyze the role of the media in the "social construction of reality".
- Ability to promote egalitarian awareness of individuals and peoples, respect for international human rights, with indicators: determine the values of respect for human rights in journalistic information and in the situations narrated.
- Adopt a favorable attitude towards respect for fundamental individual and collective values, with indicators: to determine the values of respect for human rights in journalistic information and in the debates promoted from them promoted on the basis of this information.

4. Academic activities
The program offered to the student to help him/her achieve the expected results comprises the following activities academic:
- Lectures, in which the theoretical contents specified in the program are presented. The classes are based on a participatory method
- Conducting case studies in the classroom to complement the theoretical content
- Practical activities: conducting a social research in groups
- Continuous monitoring of student learning and feedback in the classroom
- Assessment activities:
- Individual and group tutoring
5. Assessment system

The theoretical part will be evaluated by means of an individual written exam. The exam will consist of 5 development questions related to the contents taught in the theoretical classes. The weighting of this test is 60% of the final grade.

- Correct definition and understanding of basic concepts of the subject.
- Ability to relate the contents to each other
- Application of the contents to practical examples

The practical part will be evaluated through the grade of a written report on a social research project that will be carried out in groups of 3 to 5 participants. The weighting of this test is 40% of the final grade. The date of will be given well in advance of the exam. This work will be evaluated:

Formal presentation appropriate to an academic paper, correct formulation of goals and hypotheses, well-founded documentation, correct writing of the research results, ability to elaborate the discussion and conclusions.

It is necessary to pass each of the parts separately to obtain a final grade of passing or higher.
Second call
Overall evaluation identical to that of the first round.
